Denney Lau
BarristerDenney has a wealth of experience and has previously been a Partner in a Defence Practice. Denney was the President of the Law Society in Sheffield before joining Chambers at the end of July 2024. Denney is a Grade 2 Prosecutor and also speaks Cantonese fluently.
Denney Lau has always been fascinated by the criminal legal system. Over 20 years ago, he started as a paralegal and quickly became police station accredited defending clients early on in his career. He qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and worked at solicitors firms that specialises in criminal defence work.
Denney was a duty solicitor for court and police station work from 2008, spending many hours at police stations and courts to enrich his knowledge throughout the stages of criminal investigations and criminal proceedings.
Denney has appeared in the Crown Courts since 2019 after gaining his Higher Rights (Crime) and became a partner in a criminal defence specialist firm of solicitors. Not only so, Denney was also elected as the President of the Sheffield and District Law Society to represent the interests of all solicitors in the Sheffield region, he stepped down from both prestigious posts and joined the Bar in 2023 so he can fully utilise his knowledge and skills solely at the Crown Courts.
Denney has acted in a number of high-profile cases, most notably he defended the first defendant in a 8 defendants firearm and drugs conspiracy trial lasting 4 months. Denney also appeared before the Recorder of London at The Central Criminal Court in London aka The Old Bailey mitigating on behalf of a client in a case that attracted national media attention.
